How to discover to drilling basics?

Descriptive

Do you work in drilling — or want to enter the drilling industry? This 2-day practical introduction to drilling course is designed to help you get started and see what drilling looks like on a real jobsite.

During the Introduction to Drilling training, you will discover how a drilling rig works and learn the essential safety rules. You’ll complete your first drilling operation, learn how to handle the machine, and fit it with the tools required to drill effectively.

To wrap up the training, you’ll go through end-of-shift procedures: shutting down the rig, completing the daily report, and tidying and securing the work area.

Recommended prior training

We recommend taking the “Discover the Drilling Industry” course first, to cover the theory before moving on to hands-on practice.

What to do next

If you want to become a driller, we recommend the Learn to Drill pathway.

If you already know the sector you want to focus on, you can go straight to:

  • the Become a Drilling Operator pathway, or
  • the Become a Driller (Special Works) pathway.
